The New Look Toowong! #lovethevillage

Earlier this year, Toowong Village started following my Instagram account @teachersontrend. The last time I went to Toowong Village, was back in my uni days when I attacked the all-you-can-eat salad bar at Sizzler with a vengeance! I had not considered it as a place for fashion, but perhaps for sentimental reasons, I decided to revisit Toowong Village and boy, am I glad that I did!

Toowong Village has recently undergone a $50m refurb and it is BEAUTIFUL! But more than that, it has an intimacy to it, that is seldom found in other retail centres these days. I loved that I didn't need to wear a pair of sneakers and pack a picnic lunch to get from one end to the other and that I didn't need to merge in with the crowds of people, as though I were travelling to the Sunshine Coast on the first day of summer holidays! I loved that there were escalators criss crossing above me and that I didn't need a sat nav to find my way around. It felt sophisticated, but comfortable.

But what of the fashion?

On Thursday night, I was lucky enough to be invited to the Moet VIP Fashion Festival at Toowong Village as part of their Village Festival. This event was designed to showcase the amazing fashion and designers that are available in store and to put the Village at the forefront of fashion retail in Brisbane. It was hosted by the ever glamourous Sharen Kenny and MCs Lise Carlaw and Sarah Wills (from Those Two Girls). Lise Carlaw being the face of Toowong Village and Sarah Wills openly admitting that her relationship with the complex is more of a love affair with the food court! My job was sip on Moet from golden goblets (very Game of Thrones) and devour the scrumptious canapes courtesy of Alfreshco Catering, by local celebrity chef Alistair McLeod.

Guests were treated to a fantastic showcase of fashion, including Veronkia Maine and Trenery (via David Jones) Lorna Jane, Sussan, Blue Illusion and Cue and let me tell you ladies, orange / tangerine is the next big colour! There was also a gorgeous selection of menswear on display, along with something for the kids.

The decor was absolutely stunning, with a chandelier and floral canopy over a white runway. However, what I loved about the fashion modelled, was the accessibility of the pieces. Flattering, everyday styles that would suit a size 8 through to a 16 and all available at Toowong Village. The Village also boasts a fantastic Kmart, who have really upped their game recently when it comes to ultra affordable fashion, Sportsgirl (who are having 50% off reduced prices at the moment) and the always fabulous Wittner shoes.

I had forgotten how vibrant and bustling the suburb of Toowong is and yet it is just a stone's throw away from the Brisbane CBD. So the next time you're looking for a new outfit, or just want to refresh your wardrobe, rediscover the new look Toowong Village!
